A by-election to the 55th Parliament of the United Kingdom for the constituency area of Middlesbrough.

Labour hold by Andrew McDonald with a majority of 8,211 - 48.7% - on a turnout of 25.9%.

An electorate of 65,095, having a valid vote count of 16,866 and an invalid vote count of 58.
